How to Calculate Sales Tax
Tax = price × rate ÷ 100 Total = price + tax
Price before tax = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100) Rate = (total ÷ price − 1) × 100
To remove tax, divide; don’t subtract the rate from the total (54.11 − 8.25% gives $49.65, which is wrong).
